I am going to prove that Oroonoko or the Royal Slave can be interpreted more or less as a Greek myth. In order to help you following me, I attach a link to a book LINK(sorry but it is in Spanish) in which the more frequent themes in Greek myths are listed (take a look on page 230).
There are several themes a Greek myth can accomplish, but it is enough with a bunch of them, talking about Oroonoko we find:
1.- Important genealogy: He was born in a royal family.
2.- Monsters as enemies: We can take the tigers that he kills and the electric eel that he fishes as monsters.
3.- Trips: He makes several travels, from Coranmatien to Surinam for example.
4.- Getting rid of a rival: He defeats Jamoan, a leader of an enemy tribe.
5.- Mission: We can say that he has several missions. First, he has to fight against
the enemies of the King. Later on, he searches his liberty and the liberty of his family and mates.
6.- Substitution of parents: Oroonoko’s grandparent takes the role of his father.
7.- Revenge: He takes revenge on Byam who has betrayed him several times.
8.- Special weapons or divine help: They can be human-beings too, so we have Aboan and Onahal who made possible the meeting between Imoinda and Oroonoko in the otan and we also have Imoinda who helped him to fight Byam’s army.
9.- Imprisonment: Slavery is some kind of imprisonment but also remember when he is in the ship with the shackles.
10.- Beauty and strength: All heroes have those two qualities and he has them too.

Monday the First
Get rid of the riddles that I ride.
In the storm,
there's a brain,
there's a sword,
there's a brain,
there's a sword,
it's not the rain,
nor the bolts.
I know my chain, it's my fault.
I had forgotten all about the world.
Can you hear me?
Are you in my mind?
Can you see it?
Sorry, I'm tired of mine.
Are you in my mind?
Can you see it?
Sorry, I'm tired of mine.
Lame flames engulfing a strong light,
thousand animals are howling tonight.
thousand animals are howling tonight.
The wool, the cotton,
the nails, the nuts,
the nails, the nuts,
take a photo
of my brilliant guts.
of my brilliant guts.
I hate what I hate,
a man has to do
what
a man has to do,
what
a man has to do,
now for me, it's not time to be late,
I'm saying goodbye,
goodbye,
goodbye,
sorry about that, babe.

People of the blog, lend me your ears.
Hi everyone, friends of Literature! I know you are here checking this blog because you are obligated, but don't panic, I will try to entertain you with my personal and crazy style of telling things.
I want to tell you several things before you start to support this blog. First at all, I love writting so I will probably publish here a bunch of things writen by me. As you already now, I am a movie buff so I will try to talk about cinema & literature here. I am sure that I am forgotting something but it doesn't matter.
I hope you all enjoy when you check this blog and I would like also to remind you that I have also another personal blog (lajaimademiguelo) and I participate in (lafamiglia) with a pair of friends.
See you later!
